Danilo Bonazza

Danilo Bonazza is an Italian-born mosaic artist and the founder of Art & Mosaics. His work brings the expressive possibilities of glass tile to swimming pools, spas, murals and architectural interiors, combining original artwork with the practical skill required to install it.

Raised in Ravenna, Italy, Bonazza grew up surrounded by the city’s mosaic tradition. Drawing and art classes developed into a professional interest in tile and construction, giving him a foundation in both composition and craftsmanship. His early career included recognition in painting and mosaic competitions, followed by awards for quality and innovation at the World Tile Installation Competition in Düsseldorf in 2001 and 2002.

Pool and spa commissions helped define his direction. After working on spa pools in Gstaad, Switzerland, he concentrated on mosaic design and installation. Collaborations with Sicis brought international projects, including its New York showroom. He later relocated to the United States and established Art & Mosaics in 2008.

In Pool Magazine, Bonazza has discussed the swimming pool as a canvas for highly individual artwork. His approach extends beyond choosing a decorative finish: pattern, color, light and the movement of water become parts of the composition. He remains involved from concept through installation, connecting artistic intent with the demands of the finished environment.

Today, his commissions span residential and commercial settings, from custom pool interiors to portraits and large-scale murals. Across those different applications, his focus remains personal expression through the mosaic medium.
