Electrical Circuit Breaker Recalls
Swimming Pool Expert Witness offers advice to search for recalled panels.
A number of electrical circuit breaker panels have been recalled over the years due to fire hazards. Some name brand breakers & GFCI breakers have also been recalled (seimens, sq-d, etc.). If you alter a recalled panel you assume liability for any subsequent damages or fire. Before working on any existing panel, search the recall database by manufacturer & model number.
Advice to Pool Builders
If you locate a recalled panel STOP. Notify the client IN WRITING of the hazard. Only properly licensed contractors or electricians should perform replacements or repairs. Competent electricians know of these hazardous components and always perform a recall check prior to working on any panel. https://www.cpsc.gov/
