Slip N Fly Pool Ride Goes Viral
A social media influencer uploaded a stunning video of a thrilling water slide in Mexico that has many viewers wondering – where is it and how can I try it out?
Drew Dirksen went to Tijuana’s Albercas El Vergel water park. Local farmer Lucio Salazar González erected a pool on his estate in 1964, and the theme park was born. Since then, the park has undergone multiple upgrades and expansions, including the addition of the park’s most thrilling attraction, the Slip N Fly water slide.
Three of Dirksen’s companions lay flat on their bellies at the top of the ride in his video. Each person had their own column, which at first appeared to be just like any other water slide. They fell down swiftly, but the slide’s bottom curled upward. They were propelled several feet into the air before landing in a large pool.
Over 16.8 million people viewed the TikTok video. People were taken aback.
Someone asked, “Am I the only one who believed one was going to go over the pool?”
“I’m terrified, but this looks like fun,” added another.
A user remarked, “I really thought they were going to smack into the concrete.”
However, it wasn’t all fun and games in Dirksen’s extended YouTube video version, as a Slip N Fly rider got injured.
“Someone just flew off and got injured. I think that’s it for now,” Dirksen added. Which isn’t surprising given the velocity and altitude achieved before riders land in the pool.
In 2016, the Slip N Fly made its debut. Gerardo Salazar, the park’s founder’s son, desired an extreme addition to the park, which already had a wave pool and a 344-foot tube water slide.
Salazar told The San Deigo Union-Tribune, “A lot of people told me I was crazy.”
But he’s having the last laugh: the Slip N Fly raised income at the water park by 20%. Tell us in the comments, would you ever get on this crazy ride?
