How to Prevent Stains in Vinyl Pool Liners
Organic compounds and chemicals leave stains on the vinyl pool liners. Even the best quality vinyl liner pools are susceptible to bleaching and staining. To prevent this, take caution and cover with special coatings. This enables the vinyl pool liner to withstand extreme weathers and contact with chemically treated water.
Use of salts
Salt stains pools regardless of the material used. It should have adequate time to dissolve in water and afterwards the water tested for metals and pH. When buying stain removal products, it should be free from phosphorus which causes phosphate scales to develop in the chlorine generator. Stain metal removers recommend are sequestering agents and filtering aids.
Liner replacement
To replace the vinyl liner, eliminate contaminated substances and sanitize the pool shell using disinfectants such as chlorine. In areas with high water tables, the water is often in contact with microorganisms causing the pink and gray stains. The use of chlorine may not help in this case. The most practical solution is the use of a protective layer of polyethylene or a plastic sheet between the liner and the pool shell. A challenge from this application is the vinyl liner slides on the soft surface of polyethylene causing wrinkles.
Organic debris
During winter the pools are usually closed. At this time, pools should be well covered all round to avoid the accumulation of organic debris like insects and leaves. Even during the open seasons, the pool needs protection from these organisms. When the debris comes into contact with the vinyl pool liners, it leaves a gray spot. When subjected to favorable conditions, fungi grow on the debris and form a pink stain. The pink stain is a pigment excreted by microorganisms, affected by pH, temperature and oxygen.
The pink dye formed dissolves in the vinyl liner. It then coats the liner, seeming to have replaced it that even chlorine cannot bleach or have any effect on it. The dye further extends to other materials connected to it, such as soil and backup materials like tape and Styrofoam.
Use one chemical at a time
In a bucket full of water, dissolve the chemicals and pour the mixture into the pool as you sieve, it, to trap undissolved substances. The chemical should dissolve in the pool water to avoid staining of the vinyl liner. Before the addition of another chemical, the previous chemical should be dissolved entirely. This is because when two undissolved chemicals come into contact in high concentration, they bleach the liner. Chlorine tends to settle in the deep parts of the pool. It requires sufficient circulation time to prevent it from bleaching the vinyl pool liners.
Chemicals that take time to dissolve like Calcium Hypochlorite settle down the pool surfaces and can cause staining. Also, adding huge amounts of hydrochloric acid to balance the water’s pH levels can be corrosive to the vinyl liner, causing damage. When an acid mixes with pool water, it destroys the liner’s printed patterns. Following the following guidelines will help you identify pool stains, clean them, and earn you a stain-free vinyl liner.
